I established Hethcote Studio LLC as a means to explore and create, to push my own skills and with my own two hands produce objects that both serve and inspire. In my Seattle studio I create furniture and decorative art that integrates metal, wood, and reclaimed materials. Works are individually designed, fabricated, and realized in a manner that both respect the history of the materials and the wishes of the client.
Years ago I attended the University of Iowa receiving a BFA with an emphasis in design and sculpture. A transplant to Seattle almost 20 years ago, I am now firmly rooted to life in the Northwest. I have sustained my need to create over the years through work and play. Highlights have included building timber frame structures, remodeling a handful of Seattle’s old homes (including my own 1911 house), crafting a traditional kayak, and restoring a 1952 Chevy Pickup. Also, co-owning DK Works LLC, a custom metal and woodworking business, for more than 7 years. Many of my business, design, and fabrication skills were honed during these years of long hours and challenging projects. A handful of the projects on my website are from work created during this time.
